Nearly 25000 sign petition for royal commission into Indigenous suicides

A prominent suicide prevention campaigner says his change.org petition for a Royal Commission into suicide rates in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander population has achieved its outcome of drawing attention for the rising problem.

Earlier this year, a review published in the Medical Journal of Australia reported the yearly incidence of suicide among the Aboriginal population in Western Australia’s Kimberley region as seventy four deaths per one hundred thousand people.
